GB, Belfast, 41-43 Hill Street , BT1 2LA
Architect Barrie Todd will lead a tour of some of the buildings along Hill Street that kicked off the redevelopment of the Cathedral Quarter in the late 1980s. Having outgrown their University Street offices, Barrie’s architecture practice was the first new tenant in what was then known as the “Northside” area in 1989. At that time, the area was mostly a collection of run-down streets and disused warehouses.
Todd Architects’ refurbishment of a former **** merchants was the first of many innovative transformations of heritage buildings. The ensuing years would see various creative, cultural and commercial tenants breathe new life into buildings along the Cathedral Quarter’s cobbled streets.
Barrie’s tour will showcase the initial developments, how the area has changed over the years, and his own recent involvement in an extension of the Harp Bar, the latest development in the now-booming Cathedral Quarter.
