Guided Tour of Historic Winchester, including Great Hall and Winchester CathedralMeet at Winchester Train Station, Station HillWinchester
Join us for a guided tour of Winchester including a few of the city landmarks. This trip is for the morning only. Winchester is the former capital city of England, and has many historical buildings and places of interest, including the Cathedral, Wolvesey Castle and Palace, the Great Hall and the river and watermeadows.
You will need to make your own way to Winchester to meet Rod Lawrence and David Morrish, our guides, outside the front of the train station at 9.50am (platform 2 side, signed towards the city centre). Alternatively, you can meet the group outside of the Cathedral at 10.15am.
For Southampton students, Winchester is just a short train ride away, and we would suggest taking the 9:38am train from Southampton Airport Parkway (the U1A bus from Highfield Interchange goes to Southampton Airport Parkway station), or if you prefer to travel from Southampton Central then we suggest catching the 9.30am train from Southampton Central. Click here for the Unilink bus routes and timetables.
After our historic tour, you are free to explore Winchester city centre yourself. You may like to bring lunch with you, or some money to buy lunch. For more information on Winchester, see
Tickets for the tour must be booked in advance via our Eventbrite page, cost £4.95 paid in advance to cover the Winchester Cathedral tour. Booking will be open from mid-September.
If you are coming from Southampton, you will also need money for your train fare to get to Winchester (£5.50 return from Southampton Airport Parkway station or with a discount of one third if travelling as a group of three or more with a “groupsave” ticket, or if you have a 16-25 railcard). Please note if you have travelled on a group train ticket, you will need to return on the same train together with your group.
